Biography:
Elle Winston is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter. She originates from Ft. Wayne, Indiana in the heart of the Midwest, but spent most of her life growing up in southwest sun of Arizona. Her music draws its influences from American jazz, soul, funk, blues, r&b, alternative world music and western classical music. Elle completed a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Arizona State University in 2008, studying French art song and 20th century song under Judy May.
She went on to become deeply involved in the live music scene happening in Phoenix. Singing with the funk group Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce and fronting the Latin group Bata Ire, Elle has sung an array of musical styles including rare-groove American funk and Afro-Cuban/Afro-Brazilian music. As a part of these two groups Elle has opened up for acts such as Gil-Scott Heron, Joan Jett, Groupo Fantasma, Orgone and many others. Elle has also had the opportunity to play Phoenix’s Gay Pride Festival and the McDowell Mountain Music Festival.
As of December 2011, Elle released her first solo project entitled, Who Said It Was Simple?. Elle and co-writer Kevan Aaron, as well as players Rich Kniss, James Przewlocki, Steve Limpert and Mike Moyhihan, worked to produce a project that was organic in method, production and ultimately sound.
